A Journey Into Southern Sudan

We Have Arrived

We’ve been in Kampala for over a week now and things are starting to seem normal. The switch from American life to life in Uganda will take sometime and I believe that we will never completely adjust. No matter how long we live in another culture we cannot become insiders, especially when we come as adults. Even when one is born in another culture we are usually raised in an outsider culture.
It is good to be back and begin to rebuild relations with locals. One of the things that is especially rewarding is being remembered by those around you. We have received phone calls welcoming us from Adjumani and Sudan plus as we walk around town we are welcomed by old friends.
There is still a long journey before we reach our home in Adjumani, northern Uganda. Next week we travel to southern Uganda for meetings and then the following week we should be ready to go north.
Hopefully in December we will make our first trip into Southern Sudan. In the mean time we have much to buy and get fixed in preparation of that journey.
Rick and Faye Meyers and we are working on what it means to live in close community. Basically we are strangers that have intentionally chosen to live together here in Africa so that we might manifest the love of God to those around us. This of course means that in order to show love to those outside our missional community we must love one another within our missional community.
Until next time

Getting Started Again

I started this once before but it was destroyed while trying to upgrade WordPress. I think I now know how to do it so it shouldn’t happen in the future.

Our days our rapidly drawing to a close here in Portland, Or. Eleven at last count and all those things I thought could wait until the end are getting bigger. I am entering in to the panic mode, just a partial panic but full blown panic will hit next week.

Various and a sundry thinks somehow pop out of the woodwork to grab you by the neck. As you may know I have just finished 4 months of medical issues including a total hip replacement and open heart surgery to replace a bad aortic valve. All the surgeons and the cardiologist said “Go for it!” but the last check with my primary care physician(PCP) showed that I now have diabetes. One more obstacle to go around but do able. My PCP had everything rolling by Monday morning and yesterday we went down to be educated on the care and feeding of a diabetic so we are now back on track.

I wondering, when do I start counting the hours?
